On June 06 2007, we opened Umkhonto Lodge. We were the first guesthouse in Orange Grove.
Our model differed from competing guesthouses in surrounding areas in that we charged per room, and not per person – so a family of four staying overnight at Umkhonto would pay the same fee as a single man or woman on a business trip.
When doors at the first Umkhonto Lodge were opened for business, we boasted 8 comfortable bedrooms. Over the next five years, another four bedrooms were constructed – the start of an expansion that continues to this day.
2013 saw the launch of Umkhonto Lodge 2. Seven bedrooms made up this second location in Orange Grove.
The year 2018 was spent on the development of the very first Umkhonto AirBnB, and we opened for business on the 2nd of January 2019.
During 2019 we will construct a conference room / boardroom as well as an additional five bedrooms at our second location to be completed by mid-2020.
By the year 2025, the Umkhonto Group will have grown to be a lodge with 35 rooms, 2 conference rooms and 2 AirBnB's.
Our mission is simple: to be the guesthouse that offers our guests the best value for money in the Northern suburbs of Johannesburg.
Umkhonto Lodges are the cost-effective choice for the “Business Person of Africa”, as well as the traditional family seeking a relaxing and pleasant stay.
All of our rooms at both guesthouses have a king size bed.
Both guesthouses have a central kitchen for self-catering purposes.
The lodges each have a dedicated WIFI connection providing the best WIFI connection in the North.
Our guests are welcome to bring their own food and alcohol which they can eat and drink on one of our decks or outside benches in the gardens
In addition, we have an in-house pub for residents only.
